As with all weight-loss options, there are advantages and disadvantages to the intragastric balloon. The advantages are that there’s no invasive procedure: no stapling, cutting, stomach removal, or major surgery. It’s also a removable and therefore reversible option.
The disadvantages? Some people find it uncomfortable, especially immediately after insertion. The main disadvantage is that intragastric balloon procedures do require a very strict adherence to diet and exercise. This procedure complements them, but does not replace them. This procedure is also not approved in the U.S. at this time.
