Fertility Services

Is a child in your future? If you’ve been trying to have a baby for at least 2 years without any luck, In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) may be your solution. Almater Hospital offers a wide variety of fertility treatments including fertility drugs, IVF, IUIISCI and more. Patients from around the world travel to Mexicali for our excellent IVF program that boasts a remarkably high success rate.

IVF: In Vitro Fertilization

In Vitro Fertilization, or IVF, is the process of fertilization by manually combining an egg and sperm in a laboratory dish. When IVF is successful, the embryo is then transferred to the uterus.

The IVF 5 Step Process:

  • Step 1: Monitor & Stimulate Healthy Eggs in the Ovaries (Ovarian Stimulation)
Fertility medications are prescribed to increase the chance of collecting multiple eggs. Because not all eggs will develop or fertilize, multiple eggs are preferred to ensure that at least 1-2 eggs will be implanted.
  • Step 2: Collect the Eggs
Eggs are retrieved through a minor surgical procedure that uses an ultrasound.
  • Step 3: Collect the Sperm
Sperm, obtained generally by ejaculation is prepared for the fertilization process.
  • Step 4: Combine the Eggs & Sperm (Fertilization)
The insemination process places the sperm and eggs together in incubators, designed to promote fertilization. The eggs are monitored to verify fertilization and cell division. Once confirmed, the fertilized eggs are then considered embryos.
  • Step 5: Transfer the embryo(s) into the uterus  (Embryo Transfer)
1-6 days after fertilization, the embryos are transferred into the woman’s uterus.  The desired number of embryos are placed in the womb.

Success Rates:

The IVF team at Almater Hospital has an incredibly high success rate. While our success rate is very strong, the IVF process is a hurdle that has to be negotiated successfully. Not all women respond to ovarian stimulation. Not all eggs are mature or ready to be fertilized.

The key is experience. The IVF team at Almater Hospital is recognized for their experience and success with IVF and other fertility treatments. We want to ensure that you receive the right treatment, at the right time, with a goal of making you parents! We’ll be with you every step of the way, helping you understand your options and working with you to make the best decisions. We understand how important it is to help you bring a new life into your family.

You can trust Almater Hospital to deliver… so you can deliver too!

Explanation of the Most Common Procedures:

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI):

In an intrauterine insemination cycle, sperm is placed directly inside the uterus using a very fine catheter. The sperm is deposited before the release of an egg or eggs. Fertilization occurs naturally inside the body. Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin (HCG) injection is given to mature the eggs. IUI is generally performed 24-36 hours after the HCG injection.

Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI):

When the sperm quality is very poor, Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is utilized to retrieve sperm directly from the testes or epididymis. A single sperm is then injected into the center of an egg with a goal of fertilization.

Frozen Embryo Replacement Cycle (FERC):

When IVF produces more than two or three good quality embryos, some may be saved for future use. The embryos are frozen and then placed in the woman’s uterus for future procedures, if needed. With frozen embryo implantation, there is no need to use hormone injections to stimulate the ovaries. When the uterus is ready, the embryos are thawed and transferred.
